This album is dedicated to Bartlett Square. For most of my youth, I grew up skateboarding at this iconic park centered in downtown Tulsa. I spent nearly every day after school and on the weekends skateboarding there from the age of 9 to 18. My parents would drop me off and leave me with the older kids who took me under their wing. Those years of freedom taught me more than how to skateboard. It taught me how to create adventure and get lost in my imagination and find something romantic in a mundane concrete world. It kept me out of real trouble and me in just enough to feel alive. It also taught me how to run from the police.

The square was leveled in 2003 and sadly but ironically turned into a traffic circle. RIP.

4 peaceful jazz vignettes. Belt of Venus is aquamarine, with a slow, tidal energy as dignified as the sea. The aptly named plantwood is budding, emergent as flowers on dewy moss in the forest. Stained Glass Sauna has a smoky, mountain resonance, while the Sunken Cabin emerges slowly from dust-mote stillness to tortured but deliberating peaks. The whole thing is bursting with character.
