DJONDO (john•doe) is a mixed media project by Josh Cinquemani. Atmospheric soundscapes and abstract visuals wrapped in science fiction. In this story you are the main character and the music and visuals are translations of your thoughts as you travel the galaxy. The project explores the intersection of ambient music, generative art and storytelling to create immersive media environments.

Liminoid Drift is the sound of your thoughts as your body is being teleported. It’s a soundtrack for the liminal space between the real and ethereal. Immersive soundscapes and subtle textures create a sonic playground for the imagination. Time becomes immaterial as a fraction of a second expands into a 45-minute metaphysical excursion. Each of the eight tracks describes a different phase of the journey.

First, your body passes through the portal and you dissociate from physical sensations, the mind is submerged into the ethereal. You're immediately overcome with a feeling of timeless uncertainty. Fear creeps in as you search for patterns in the glitches that surround you. The fear fades as you find yourself suspended in a glittering nexus point of possible paths. The paths assemble into an ever-morphing protean loop floating before you, then the center of the ring pulls you through. A feeling of tranquility overcomes you as your mind twists through a turnpike of shimmering colors. The movement suddenly stops and you’re suspended in a sea of static memories and disembodied feelings. And then – ever so slowly – your mind reintegrates with the body, physical sensations return and the memories of what just happened start slipping away like a dream. You step through the portal again. Only a second has passed.

4 peaceful jazz vignettes. Belt of Venus is aquamarine, with a slow, tidal energy as dignified as the sea. The aptly named plantwood is budding, emergent as flowers on dewy moss in the forest. Stained Glass Sauna has a smoky, mountain resonance, while the Sunken Cabin emerges slowly from dust-mote stillness to tortured but deliberating peaks. The whole thing is bursting with character.
