about

"On An Apocalypse Surf Trip is a aural homage towards the bootleg urban beach fashion I used to wear around 1990-1991."

"A lot of these cheap knockoffs e.g. the Indonesian version of Vision Street Wear called 'Griffone' - were imbued with cool designs that were basically amateurish re-imaginings of actual Vision graphics. Memories are hazy but I remember these semi-photo/illustrations as feeling real yet also alien, with unrealistic colors clashing onto each other in an almost-psychedelic-rock-posters sort of way. When there were surfers and waves, they looked like they were surfing in space or some post-end-of-the-world scenario; glimpses of oceanic bliss upon a doomed existence."

"The whole album was recorded in a month session early last year at home in Jakarta, Indonesia, utilizing mostly processed JX3P, DX7, and MIDI sounds that were all improvised, picked apart, then assembled again. Everything started with a basic layer of samples from a variety of now-indiscernible sci-fi movies and the instrumental sections of Japanese space-sheriff (Gavan, Sharivan) audio-play tapes which I collected between 1988-1992. As is the idea of SMII is to use samples from different sources alongside each other to see their harmonic capabilities, those samples were treated as such. I feel I've done so well-enough for Apolycapse."
